BILBAO IS EASY TO EXPLORE ON FOOT OR BY METRO, SO LOCATION IS KEY.
CHOOSE ACCOMMODATION THAT’S CLOSE TO EVERYTHING.
Old Quarter (Casco Viejo): the heart of Bilbao and one its most central areas. The city was born here, and it still boasts some of its oldest buildings and shops, not to mention its famous pintxo routes – a must if you’re visiting.
Key landmarks include Santiago Cathedral, Plaza Nueva, La Ribera Market and Arriaga Theatre.
Bilbao la Vieja: located just across the river from the Old Quarter. Bilbao’s bohemian and artistic neighbourhood features contemporary, fusion and international cuisine, art galleries, and second-hand and artisan shops.

Moyua Square, in the heart of El Ensanche.
El Ensanche (Indautxu and Abando): this area owes its name to Bilbao’s 19th-century expansion. If you appreciate architecture, you’ll love the blend of modernist, functionalist and baroque buildings alongside contemporary landmarks such as the Guggenheim Museum, the Fine Arts Museum and Iberdrola Tower.
It’s perfect for shopping, dining, visiting art galleries or enjoying its wonderful parks and squares.
Deusto: the student quarter, home to the University of Deusto.
Uribarri: located near El Ensanche and the Old Quarter, here you’ll find the funicular that takes you to Artxanda and Bilbao’s City Hall.
Begoña: perhaps the quietest and most peaceful part of the city, home to the Basilica of Begoña and Etxebarria Park.

Location: Bilbao may be small in size, but it’s big on culture and cuisine, so think about what you want to see and do while you’re here.
A central stay is perfect for exploring the city on foot.
Soundproofing: like any city, Bilbao has its fair share of traffic and bustle, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get a good night’s sleep – just make sure your accommodation is adequately soundproofed.
Security: is there electronic access for guests only? CCTV? How do you access the rooms?
Staff: there’s a lot to do in Bilbao – friendly staff who can point you in the right direction are a big plus.
Access to public transport: make sure your accommodation is well connected. Bilbao has an excellent public transport network to help you make the most of your visit.
