Are you coming to celebrate Christmas in Bilbao? La Villa recovers all the magic, light, leisure and culture again after two years with limitations due to the pandemic. This year with a much more varied program aimed at all ages. Do you want to enjoy an authentic Bilbao Christmas? Take a look at all the plans that we propose.

Activities area

The nerve center of Christmas in Bilbao will once again be located on both banks of the Ría, specifically in the surroundings of the Bilbao City Hall, El Arenal and the Ripa Quay. Until next January 8 you can enjoy a wide range of activities for all tastes. We tell you what they are.

Christmas trees and lights

You can enjoy the Christmas lights from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., every day of the week until January 8. You will also find more than 57 decorated trees in the different districts of Bilbao.

Six lane ice rink and slide

It is an 800 square meter ecological ice rink, with half of the installation covered so that it can be used without depending on the weather. In addition, it includes a large slide with six sliding lanes.

The facility will be available until January 5 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. During the school activity period, the hours will be only in the afternoon, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Children’s tent

Located on the Ripa Pier you can find a 450-square-meter tent full of activities designed for boys and girls between 0 and 12 years old.

The space is divided into two parts:

  • Ganbara: where the little ones and their families can enjoy a labyrinth, playground, photographic exhibition…
  • Factory of Christmas Dreams: with workshops, mailbox for letters from Olentzero and Mari Domingi and the Three Wise Men, toy library…

In addition, on December 21, 26, 28, January 2 and 4 there will be different children’s shows with storytelling, magic, diskofesta, balloon twisting… From 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. You can get your ticket here or in the tent itself.

Christmas market

20 booths on the Ripa Quay where you can buy traditional Basque products, gifts, decoration… Open until January 5 from 12:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., except on the 12, 13, 14, 15, 19 and 20 days of December with hours from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Opposite, on the El Arenal Pier, you will also find the Christmas Crafts Fair with a wide variety of handmade products.

Kalejira de Olentzero and the Three Kings Parade

On the afternoons of Friday, December 23 and Thursday, January 5, Olentzero, Mari Domingi, the Three Wise Men and their respective courts will once again tour the streets of the Villa at the Kalejira and the Cavalcade starting at 6:00 p.m.

The first from the Hotel Carlton to Plaza Arriaga, with a show at the end of the tour, and the second along the Gran Vía to the Town Hall.

Cultural programming

The council has organized different cultural events in the different neighborhoods of the Villa:

  • Performing arts: theater, clown, circus, magic, monologues, storytelling…
  • Basque folklore: Basque dances, pilgrimages, kalejiras…
  • Music: choral concerts and different groups and artistic.
  • Literature: the Bidebarrieta library joins the program with scientific conferences, poetry recitals, book presentations, dialogues… You have all the information here.

In addition, cultural centers such as Azkuna Zentroa, the Arriaga Theater, Bilbao Musika or the Museum of Reproductions have also organized activities for these days.
